Favorite Mississippi River location: Under the gnarly ancient oak that stands on the west upper bluff off Franklin Terrace north of the Franklin Avenue Bridge. “You will know you are there when you find the stone and masonry reminders of a now lost bronze plaque. The Ancient Oak is the oldest tree in the city. It was an aged sentinel on the river when Louis Hennepin and Jonathan Carver passed below it centuries ago. It is breathtaking in its strength and resilience. The witch’s tower and Bridal Veil Falls can be seen nearby.”

Favorite animal: Mud turtle. “We have similar goals.”

Last memorable vacation: “On the white sand beaches of western Michigan where our campfire sparkled and the hushed evening waves whispered between the ghost stories.”

Favorite band: Ritalin. “No, unless you frequent garages in the Como neighborhood of Saint Paul, you’ve never heard of them.”
