Working to protect the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin Cities area
Member of FMR staff since: September 2007
Hobbies: Swimming, hiking, home decorating and “playing with my kids.”
Education: B.S. in Business Management, Carlson School, University of Minnesota.
Reason for believing in FMR: “How could you not? We have such a beautiful natural resource right here in our back yard (so to speak) — how could we not want to enhance and preserve it?”
Favorite literature: A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson, and “anything to do with surviving extreme conditions while mountain climbing. Not sure why, but I am somewhat obsessed with Mt. Everest and Mt. Rainier. Maybe in a former life I climbed one of them!”
Favorite music: Pretty eclectic collection but a few favorites are Natalie Merchant, James Blunt and Louis Armstrong.
Favorite location on the river: Downtown Minneapolis by the 3rd Avenue Bridge. “I don’t think it is the most beautiful spot, but it has special meaning to me as it is the place where I first saw the Mississippi. I was newly arrived from England and couldn’t wait to see the great Mississippi — this is where my friends took me — on an extremely cold December day, I might add.”
Last big vacation: “I went home to England for Christmas in 2006 with my family. All of my family lives in Southampton England (where I was born). This was my first Christmas at home in over 20 years so it was absolutely brilliant.”
Heroes: Anyone that has summitted Mt. Everest and survived it. And even a few who almost made it.
