Pine Bend Prairie Worknight [FULL]

Thursday, July 9, 2015 - 1:00pm to Friday, July 10, 2015 - 2:45pm

Join us Thursday, July 9th, 6 to 8 p.m. to help protect Pine Bend Bluffs Scientific & Natural Area (SNA) , an award-winning restoration site known for some of the best views of the Upper Mississippi River.

Working with FMR Lead Ecologist Karen Schik and FMR Stewardship Coordinator Adam Flett volunteers will remove spotted knapweed and hoary allysum, two invasive species encroaching on the native prairie. Minnesota's native bees and local wildlife depend on this rare habitat. Plus, with their deeper root systems, the native prairie plants better control erosion and filter pollution that would otherwise run down the Pine Bend Bluffs into the Mississippi River below.

As always, training, gloves, tools and guidance will be provided. Volunteers should be aware, however, that an SNA is not your average park; there are no paved trails, pavilions or other facilities.
