Controlled burn at Hastings Sand Coulee SNA

FMR, in partnership with the Scientific and Natural Areas (SNA) staff at the Department of Natural Resources, has been working to restore the Hastings Sand Coulee Scientific and Natural Area to the native prairie habitat.

Here we see a controlled burn in progress as it consumes a red cedar. The burn also took care of non-native weeds and a thick layer of pine needle duff.

For more on the year's progress on the Hastings Sand Coulee SNA, see FMR's recent photo essay.
