FMR is seeking an outreach assistant to provide administrative and program support for our public engagement work.

The assistant needs to be highly organized, possess excellent communication and interpersonal abilities, be comfortable and skilled working with both people and spreadsheets, and be able to work effectively in a very interactive team-based office setting.

Responsibilities
  • Assist the FMR volunteer coordinator with recruitment by posting FMR events in online calendars, generating flyers and tabling at community and college fairs as needed
  • Assist with pre- and post- event registration, communications and data entry
  • Maintain meticulous contact records of event participants in FMR’s database
  • Assist the stewardship program manager with FMR habitat restoration, water stewardship and educational workshops, including some evening and weekend events
  • Assist the youth coordinator with outreach to teachers, coordination of supplies and youth programming
  • Upload and organize event photos after each event
  • Assist with volunteer coordination and recognition activities
  • Participate with the outreach and stewardship team on long- and short-range program planning
  • Assist with other administrative support or duties as assigned
Required qualifications
  • Experience
    The successful candidate will have one to two years' experience in community outreach, volunteer coordination, environmental education and/or office administration.
  • Organizational/administrative
    Candidates must be organized, detail-oriented, have training or experience in an office setting, and be able to monitor, complete and report to other staff on multiple projects with minimal supervision. Strong proficiency with office programs such as Word and Excel is required, as is a basic comfort level working with databases and interactive web-based tools, such as Google docs and maps, social media sites, online event registration, etc.
  • Interpersonal
    The position involves working with a variety of volunteers, students, teachers, community members, vendors and organizational partners. Candidates should have experience and feel comfortable interacting with people of all ages and cultural backgrounds. Experience teaching and/or interacting with the public is preferred.
  • Flexibility and collaboration
    A strong aptitude to work in a collaborative setting on multiple projects or programs is needed, as is flexibility.  The assistant will need to respond quickly to changing program needs and assignments and be able to occasionally work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends
  • Reliable transportation 
    Candidates must have reliable personal transportation and be willing to transport project equipment in their vehicle. Mileage and parking costs for work-related travel will be reimbursed.
Additional desired qualifications
  • Ability to increase weekly hours in the future, as funding allows
  • Familiarity with the Mississippi River and the Twin Cities region
  • Knowledge and/or experience in water resources, landscape ecology, habitat restoration or other environmental topics
  • Experience with media outreach, graphic design and photo management
Hours and compensation
  • This is a permanent part-time hourly position with 20 hours per week on average
  • A minimum of three days per week in the office is required unless fieldwork is scheduled
  • Wage is $12-13 per hour with pro-rated insurance, holiday and vacation benefits; parking allowance of $75/month; retirement benefits available beginning July 1, 2017
