Whose view? From where? — November 2013

We received several correct responses this month. David Stack summed it up well: This is a photo of the Minneapolis downtown skyline taken between the Mississippi River and West River Road N. in North Minneapolis. The shot was taken close to the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board headquarters, near the intersection of 22nd Ave. N. and West River Road.

David Inman, Jonathan Riehle and Eric Otterness also submitted correct responses. Kudos to Martin Schub for identifying the time the photo was taken as well as the place in his response: The November photo looks like Orvin Ole Olson Park, one of the stops on the FMR's bike tour this past August.

If you have not yet visited this park, its worth the trip for its stunning views of the Minneapolis skyline. The depression in the foreground is part of a large rain garden that treats stormwater runoff from the Park Board building parking lot across the street. Its a good location for spotting wildlife in the heart of the city — a black bear was sighted nearby in summer of 2012.

About Whose view? From where?

Each month in this section, we feature a photo somewhere along the river corridor in the Twin Cities that is in some way significant or important or just plain scenic. Individuals may then e-mail us and identify the view and explain why they believe it is significant to the community or important to them personally. Well publish some of your responses in the next issue of Mississippi Messages, where we will also reveal the correct answer.

To submit your guess and response, e-mail Bob Spaulding, River Advocate, through our contact form. The respondent to provide the first correct identification of the view and hopefully some interesting thoughts about its significance will receive a valuable prize for their effort. All entries must be received by the first day of the following month for consideration.
