Whose view? From where? — March 2014

Two people correctly identified the view this month. Eric Otterness, who gets it right almost every month, submitted: This picture is from an overlook along the river in Northeast Minneapolis in Marshall Terrace Park. Looking west towards North Minneapolis with two small islands in the foreground with the main river channel outside them.

Katie Clower, who recently moved on from her position at FMR, also identified it correctly.

The upstream island is the new home of the Great Blue Heron rookery that was devastated by a tornado a few years ago. If you get a chance, visit this lookout at Marshall Terrace Park before the leaves come out and you will be amazed at the number of herons and nests that are visible.

Marshall Terrace Park is located at Marshall Street & 27th Avenue Northeast in Minneapolis, and the lookout is northeast of the parking lot.

About Whose view? From where?

Each month in this section, we feature a photo somewhere along the river corridor in the Twin Cities that is in some way significant or important or just plain scenic. Individuals may then e-mail us and identify the view and explain why they believe it is significant to the community or important to them personally. Well publish some of your responses in the next issue of Mississippi Messages, where we will also reveal the correct answer.

To submit your guess and response, e-mail Irene Jones, River Corridor Program Director, through our contact form.
