New Saint Paul-based charter school to focus on the Mississippi River

Opening in Fall of 2008, River’s Edge Academy will be a small charter high school that challenges a diverse mix of students with rigorous academics, innovative projects and an inter-disciplinary river-focused curriculum as it prepares them for life beyond high school. River’s Edge students will connect to local and global communities through meaningful, productive learning experiences centered on the past, present and future, through ecology, commerce, people and cultures of the Mississippi River system. They will be a part of in-depth, inquiry-based projects and service learning activities that connect them to their local community and directly impact their own lives.

River’s Edge Academy is an official Expeditionary Learning School, using a model of education that is based on the principles of Outward Bound, with a rigorous standards-based curriculum supported by extensive fieldwork.
