Shoreline Restoration

Display Date:
POSTPONED
Location:
Lake Marion, Lakeville

Postponed due to high water

We are working to reschedule this event for a later date after the current high water recedes. We’ll notify registrants of the new date and time once determined, and we’ll also update this page accordingly.

Please note: Pre-registration is required for this limited capacity, hands-on restoration event. To register, or for more information, contact sue through our contact form or at 651-222-2193 x14. Please include your name, the number in your party, contact information and the name of the event. Registrants will receive meeting location and additional information.

Help install aquatic vegetative mats and native shoreline plants on the Lake Marion shoreline.

Native plants filter and absorb polluted run-off, anchor soil, discourage geese (which foster bacterial growth and cause nutrient loading problems), provide habitat for fish, birds, butterflies and dragonflies and act as a beautiful buffer between yards and lakes.

Volunteers should wear rubber boots, waders (if you have them) or sturdy shoes and appropriate clothing for digging in the dirt or wading into the lake. Tools, gloves, snacks and hands-on instruction will be provided. Children welcome with a parent or guardian.

This shoreline stabilization is part of the Blue Thumb Planting for Clean Water program, which makes it easy for residents interested in doing their part to protect water quality to plan, purchase and plant native gardens, raingardens and shorelines with native plants. For more information, visit the Blue Thumb web site.

This event is also part of the Vermillion Stewards program, volunteers participating in hands-on stewardship and educational programs throughout the unique Vermillion River watershed. Read more…
