Vermillion River Watershed clean-up - Hastings

Display Date:
Saturday, September 20, 2008 — 9:00 am-12:00 pm
Location:
CP Adams Park on the Vermillion River, Hastings

Help pick up litter along the Vermillion River and its tributaries during the low water levels of autumn, helping to beautify this trophy trout stream!

Volunteers will work simultaneously in three locations throughout the watershed: Whispering Creek in Elko New Market, CP Adams Park in Hastings and Southcreek in Lakeville.

About this location: CP Adams is a 40-acre park roughly a mile south of downtown Hastings. Volunteers will be picking up in areas near lakes and wetlands that feed/border the Vermillion River. The park is known for both its recreational activities -- such as its frisbee golf course and paved trails -- and high-quality natural areas.

After receiving garbage bags and gloves, volunteers will walk and collect litter and other debris that has accumulated along the river and floodplain over the summer months. All supplies are provided and FMR staff will be on-hand for further direction and support as needed. Lunch will be provided at the conclusion, courtesy of REI!

This event is part of the Vermillion Stewards program, which helps local residents learn about the watershed while working to protect and enhance its unique natural resources.

Please register by noon, Wednesday, September 17th, to help us make sure there are enough supplies (and food) and to give us time to email you detailed directions (none of the sites have a regular mailing address that gets you to the correct spot) and other important information. To register, contact sue rich, volunteer coordinator, through our contact form (please select "volunteer" from the dropdown menu) or 651-222-2193 x14.
