Sand Coulee Stewards

Flexible and ongoing opportunity

Summer, fall 2008, spring onward 2009

Sand Coulee SNA, just south of Hastings

If you love prairies and are looking to make a difference in their health and vitality, but have a difficult time coordinating events with your schedule, this opportunity may be a perfect fit.

FMR volunteer Deb Jahnke is putting together an informal volunteer group to tend the rare high-quality dry sand/gravel prairie known as the Sand Coulee. Located just south of Hastings, the coulee features 13 rare plant and animal species and offers a glimpse of what much of Minnesota looked like pre-settlement.

Deb, whom you can read about in her volunteer profile, is highly skilled at removing invasive species and otherwise caring for the coulee. While she appreciates the solitude of her prairie time, she is eager to involve and meet more prairie-oriented people, and possibly build a small volunteer social group around this local treasure.

If you’re interested in becoming involved, please contact FMR Volunteer Coordinator sue rich through our contact form or at 651-222-2193 x14. Read more…
