Facing mounting costs to maintain Coon Rapids Dam, Three Rivers Park District is looking for other options. Although built for hydropower, the dam is no longer used to generate electricity. Donated to the district in 1969, it has primarily been maintained for the benefit of local homeowners who use the impounded pool for recreation. The district is now asking state legislators to appoint a commission to study the issue and make recommendations.
