Alas, we’ve heard that many river-lovers have become afflicted with some high-grade spring fever. As the snow retreats, you’re itching to do it all: Get outside and pick up that annoying litter. Install a native garden, rain barrel or permeable pavers — or all of them! — in your yard. Learn everything you can about the most important issues facing the river today. Learn about the ephemerals patch at Crosby Park, and help it survive by
removing the invasive species garlic mustard. After the training and
kick-off event, volunteers wll be certified garlic-mustard removers and
can return to the area to volunteer with friends and family on their own
time.
In addition to stunning river valley views, Pine Bend SNA provides vital habitat for many birds who rely on the Mississippi River flyway. Come join this award-winning regional restoration project! Participating volunteers will also be offered the opportunity (optional) to return to this protected area to complete additional restoration work on their own or with friends and family.
Please save the date and help us spread the word about FMR’s 2013 Earth Day cleanups! We have three of them, all scheduled for the morning of Saturday, April 20th. There are two in Minneapolis — at the oak savanna and maple basswood forests in the Mississippi River Gorge — and one in Lakeville, along the banks of South Creek (Vermillion River).
