What's your city planning for its riverfront? The river city plans tracker.

Right now all 25 cities and towns within the Mississippi River Corridor Critical Area are busy putting the finishing touches on new plans for their local riverfront stretch. As they become available over the next few months, we'll add them here.

Brooklyn Park

Brooklyn Park plan webpage
Where they're at in the process:

Brooklyn Park's comprehensive plan has been released, including the river corridor chapter, and they are taking public comments now through October 26, 2018.

Opportunities for participation:

A public hearing was held in March and their city has asked that public comments be submitted as soon as possible.

 

Brooklyn Center

Brooklyn Center has requested an extension on their comp plan (and river corridor chapter) and will release their draft plan early next year.

Champlin

Champlin plan webpage
Where they're at in the process:

Champlin has released its draft comprehensive plan but the river corridor chapter is not yet available.

Opportunities for participation:

Plans will be reviewed at a public hearing this fall and the city is accepting public comments.

 

Coon Rapids

Coon Rapids plan webpage
Where they're at in the process:

Coon Rapids' comprehensive plan has been released, including the river corridor chapter, and they are taking public comments online.

Opportunities for participation:

A public hearing will be scheduled later this year.

 

Cottage Grove

Cottage Grove plan webpage
Where they're at in the process:

Cottage Grove released their draft comprehensive plan on May 18, 2018 including the river corridor chapter, and the city council tentatively approved the plan on July 17.

Opportunities for participation:

Adjacent communities have until the end of September to provide comments on issues such as protecting scenic views from nearby cities..

 

Dayton

Where they're at in the process:

Dayton has requested a one-year extension on their comp plan (and river corridor chapter) and will release their draft plan for comment in May 2019. Plan chapters will be posted online as they are completed during the coming year.

Denmark Township

Denmark Township has requested an extension on their comp plan (and river corridor chapter) and will release their draft plan by September 30, 2018.

Fridley

Fridley plan webpage

Fridley's comprehensive plan has been released, including the river corridor chapter, and they are taking public comments now through the end of September.

Opportunities for participation:

A public hearing was held in March and the city has asked that any additional public comments be submitted as soon as possible.

 

Grey Cloud Island Township

Grey Cloud Island Township webpage:

Comp plan is available under "Documents & Pages."

Where they're at in the process:

Grey Cloud Island Township has released its draft comprehensive plan (including the river corridor plan) to adjacent jurisdictions for review.

Opportunities for participation:

The Town Board held a public hearing on July 9, 2018 and voted to finalize their plan.

 

Hastings

Hastings plan webpage
Where they're at in the process:

Hastings has completed several draft chapters, including the river chapter. Their website has powerpoint presentations about the plan and links to more information.

Opportunities for participation:

Hastings held an open house in late May and they are taking comments on the draft plan through the end of November.

 

Inver Grove Heights

Inver Grove Heights plan webpage
Where they're at in the process:

Inver Grove Heights held a public meeting in February and they released the full draft plan this summer.

Opportunities for participation:

The city is accept public comments comments through the fall, when they will hold a public hearing.

 

Lilydale

Maplewood

Maplewood plan webpage
Where they're at in the process:

Maplewood's comprehensive plan has been released, including the river corridor chapter, and they are taking public comments through September.

Maplewood has wrapped up most of their community engagement and already held their public hearing.

Mendota Heights

Mendota Heights plan webpage
Where they're at in the process:

Mendota Heights has a draft plan available, but the river corridor chapter is not yet completed. A full draft will be available later this spring.

Public hearing dates will be scheduled in the near future.

 

Minneapolis

Minneapolis plan webpage
Where they're at in the process:

Minneapolis released its comp plan in late March, 2018, but the river corridor plan was not released until May 18, 2018.  The city collected public input on draft policies and maps through July 22, 2018.

Opportunities for participation:

Currently, the city is combing through the extensive public comments they recieved and discussing possible changes internally and with elected officials. There will likely be some additional meetings and opportunities for feedback before the end of 2018.

 

Newport

Newport's draft comprehensive plan is available online, including the river corridor chapter.

Opportunities for participation:

Newport held a community workshop in late February and there will be a hearing later this fall.

 

Nininger Township

Ramsey

Ramsey's comprehensive plan has been released, including the river corridor chapter, and they are taking public comments through early September.

Rosemount

Rosemount plan webpage
Where they're at in the process:

The city presented the draft comprehensive plan at an open house last summer, but the river corridor chapter was not ready yet. They are planning to request an extension into 2019.

Rosemount's webpage has opportunities to provide general input through a comment form and an interactive map

 

South St. Paul

South St. Paul plan webpage
Where they're at in the process:

South St. Paul is drafting their comprehensive plan and will release it later this year. They may request an extension to work on the plan into 2019.

Opportunities for participation:

A public hearing will be scheduled after they send out their draft plan to adjacent communities and the National Park Service.

 

St. Paul

Where they're at in the process:

St. Paul has released their preliminary draft plan, but the river corridor chapter is not yet complete. They requested an extension through June 2019.

Opportunities for participation:

Public open houses were held in June and additional public meetings will be held during the coming months - stay tuned
