Join us for a special evening during Pride Month to come together and revitalize the planting demonstration boxes in the Nicollet Island prairie. FMR recently led a multi-year restoration of the natural areas on the north half of Nicollet Island, in partnership with the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization, Hennepin County, and the Minneapolis Park & Recreation Board. The restoration plan included invasive species removal, enhancement of degraded forest areas and the expansion of diverse grassland habitat, including 2 acres of native prairie where the demonstration boxes are located.

Together with the guidance of FMR staff, volunteers will dig in to tend the grasses and wildflowers that are part of this native prairie planting. These plants provide ideas of what might create good habitat in parkgoers' own neighborhoods.

This event is for those who self-identify as LGBTQIA2S+, or as allies of the queer community! No experience is needed. However, registration is required, and capacity is limited. All tools, gloves and training will be provided.

Accessibility

The worksite for this event is flat, with gravel trails leading to the demonstration boxes. Tending is a lower-impact activity that can be done while sitting down or kneeling. FMR will provide a few kneeling pads.

Long pants are recommended.
