“From Silent Spring to Silent Night” — Endocrine Disruptors and Amphibian Decline

University of Minnesota, Minneapolis

Speaking to a packed house of 250 attendees at the University of Minnesota on March 20, presented by Friends of the Mississippi River and the Mississippi Watershed Management Organization, University of California biologist Dr. Tyrone Hayes presented his research linking widespread amphibian decline with the herbicide Atrazine. Dr. Hayes’s published and peer-reviewed research demonstrates that Atrazine, the second most widely used herbicide in the world, is a potent endocrine disrupter that demasculinizes male amphibians at very low concentrations — far below the level considered “safe” by the US Environmental Protection Agency.
