Whose view? From where? — July 2011

We had one correct guess for what was an admittedly tough view. This month, congratulations go to Ryan Rodgers, who was very informative:?

"This is what's left of Bridal Veil Falls, coming out from a culvert under East River Parkway, just downriver from the University of Minnesota's East Bank. The photo appears to have been taken before the city remodeled the bridge few years back. Of the handful of ice climbing destinations in the Twin Cities, this is my favorite. On clear winter evenings, sunshine lights up the ice. The views across the river are good and setting up the rope is a snap thanks to a 3-foot cubed concrete stanchion of the bridge.? A stream used flow from along Kasota Ave. to the falls. Now, I suppose, whatever current remains follows subterranean culverts."

About Whose view? From where?

Each month in this section, we feature a photo somewhere along the river corridor in the Twin Cities that is in some way significant or important or just plain scenic. Individuals may then e-mail us and identify the view and explain why they believe it is significant to the community or important to them personally. Well publish some of your responses in the next issue of Mississippi Messages, where we will also reveal the correct answer.

To submit your guess and response, e-mail Bob Spaulding, River Advocate, through our contact form. The respondent to provide the first correct identification of the view and hopefully some interesting thoughts about its significance will receive a valuable prize for their effort. All entries must be received by the first day of the following month for consideration.
