Working to protect the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin Cities area

Vermillion River Tree Planting

Display Date:
Saturday, May 8, 2010 — 9:00 am-noon
Location:
Aquatic Management Area, Vermillion Township, Farmington

Join staff from the MN Department of Natural Resources in planting trees along the Vermillion River as part of a streambank stabilization project. Adding more native trees to the area will increase the root mass in the soil and help hold the streambank in place, preventing it from eroding into the stream and impairing water quality and habitat. The trees will also eventually provide shade to keep the water cool and protect the river's cold water trout fishery.

This event is also part of the Vermillion Stewards program, which involves volunteers in hands-on stewardship and educational programs throughout the unique Vermillion River watershed.

The location is roughly 40 minutes south of Mpls/St. Paul and 30 minutes southwest of Hastings. All registrants will be emailed detailed directions to the meeting spot.
