You’re invited to join the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota for the announcement of the 2007 Ten Most Endangered Historic Places List. This will be the 14th year that the Alliance has released its listing of the state’s most endangered historic properties. The Ten Most Endangered program is designed to shine a spotlight on historic sites and buildings that face imminent danger through demolition, neglect or inappropriate public policy. Through this program the Alliance seeks favorable outcomes that can be achieved through restoration or creative reuse. Of the 113 properties recognized over the list’s history, almost half have been saved through the awareness generated by its listing. Success stories include Minneapolis’ Sears warehouse building, which was listed in 1995. Now a vibrant urban marketplace called the Midtown Exchange, the project received a national preservation award in 2006.

The Ten Most Endangered Historic Properties List is selected from nominations submitted by citizens and groups from around the state. Property owners are given the opportunity to comment on the proposed listing to ensure all possible information is considered by the selection committee. The committee then reviews the applications and selects the top 10 properties, which are announced in May during National Preservation Month. The Alliance continues to work with local citizens, property owners and elected officials to find a positive outcome for each endangered property after the list is announced.
