Working to protect the Mississippi River and its watershed in the Twin Cities area
This event has reached capacity. Please consider helping at another June habitat restoration activity!
-----
Help care for native lakeshore and prairie plants at Hastings River Flats. This city park, a former petroleum storage tank site, is part of the globally important Mississippi River flyway.
As a volunteer, you will be helping to protect plants that are important for such birds as the once-common loggerhead shrike (pictured below right) which depend upon this increasingly rare native habitat.
You will also be helping to improve watershed quality, with their deeper roots, native plants decrease erosion and better filter runoff pollution before it can enter the watershed and the Mississippi River. For more information on this area, including pictures of the native plants and flowers you will be helping to protect, please visit our Hastings River Flats Restoration page.
