Mississippi River Challenge Social Media and Marketing Intern

Friends of the Mississippi River is currently seeking applicants for the position of Mississippi River Challenge Social Media and Marketing Intern for fall 2013.

The Mississippi River Challenge is a two-day paddle-a-thon fundraiser that seeks to raise money for Friends of the Mississippi River as well as provide recreational opportunities for paddlers to get in touch with their local waterways.

You’ll be working as a part of a team to follow up with participants and sponsors of the 2013 Mississippi River Challenge — an essential part of making the 2014 event successful!

Although this is an unpaid position, you will have opportunities to gain valuable experience in the fundraising and nonprofit events realm. Also, you will have great networking opportunities with other outdoors organizations and businesses.

Qualifications:
  • Interest in sales, advertising, marketing, fundraising and nonprofit event management
  • Very organized and detail-oriented
  • Able to commit to a minimum 8 hours per week (12 hours preferred)
  • Strong affinity for Facebook and other social media platforms is a must
  • Able to communicate clearly, both verbally and when writing
  • Interest in graphic design
Additional desired qualifications
  • Positive, friendly, can-do attitude!
  • Previous web marketing experience or working towards a marketing based degree with web focus
  • Affinity for environmental issues and the Friends of the Mississippi River Mission
  • Interest in nonprofit fundraising and development
  • Experience in graphic designing (i.e. Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, etc.)
