Mississippi River Challenge Communications and Marketing Assistant/Intern

Friends of the Mississippi River is currently seeking applicants for the position of Mississippi River Challenge Communications and Event Planning Assistant for May/June through late August 2012. While unpaid, this is an excellent opportunity to add an interesting and meaningful experience to your resume in the competitive field of nonprofit event planning and polish your skills in a supportive, encouraging and professional environment.

The Mississippi River Challenge is an annual Friends of the Mississippi River event wherein hundreds of paddlers canoe and kayak over 40 miles of the Mississippi through the metro area to raise awareness of the importance of the river.

Qualifications:
  • Interest in event planning and fundraising
  • Able to commit to a minimum 8 hours per week (12 hours preferred)
  • Reliability is a must
  • Intermediate Microsoft Word and Excel skills
  • A positive attitude and ability to positively interact with a wide variety of people
  • Very good communications skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to organize one's time and files in a productive manner
  • Openness and the ability to go with the flow
